From the desk of Founder Gina Lee:
The Legacy concept and vision has been in the works for the last ten years. Various professional opportunities and experiences have given me the necessary insight to bring my vision to life. However, my passion for athlete healthcare dates back to my childhood, and a specifically an early mentor of mine, creating the Legacy Story.
Growing up in small town Mississippi as the daughter of the local high school football coach, sports played a critical role in my childhood. I spent many nights breaking down game-film and countless hours at practices and games. It was through these experiences with my father that led me to pursue a career in sports medicine and physical therapy.
As a student at Mississippi State University I was selected to work for esteemed Physical Therapist Mrs. Celia Robson. Mrs. Robson is considered the co-founder of Sports Medicine alongside Dr. Jack Hughston who went on to open the Hughston clinic, where Dr. Andrews got his start in 1973. Dr. Andrews eventually moved to Birmingham, Alabama where I was fortunate enough to work with him for a number of years. Through my time with Dr. Andrews, Mrs. Robson and listening to elite athletes during their rehabilitation, I developed a unique comprehensive sports medicine concept, that we have so fittingly named the Legacy Sports Institute. The name “Legacy” is meant to highlight the lineage of Dr. Hughston and Mrs. Robson, and furthermore represent what Dr. Andrews has done for the field and for athletes all over the world.
While providing a culture that focuses on the athlete first, Legacy Sports Institute and the corresponding Legacy Sports Research Institute will be the global bridge to connect and drive innovation across industry experts, thought leaders and athletes. We are excited to bring this new standard in athlete healthcare to Alpharetta, GA.
